This rice makes a nice side dish to serve with chicken, fish or other meats. Remember to use the longer cooking time if you use brown rice. Make sure you don't remove the lid to peek anytime during cooking!
Combine in medium saucepan:
1-3/4 c water
1 c uncooked rice (white or brown)
1/4 c finely chopped scallion, green tops included
2 t No-MSG chicken broth powder
1/2 t salt
1/4 t dried basil
1/4 t dried thyme
1/4 t garlic powder
dash cayenne pepper
Stir ingredients just to combine, cover pan, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer and cook 20 minutes for white rice and 40 minutes for brown rice. Remove from heat and allow to stand, covered, for 5 minutes before serving. Fluff with fork and serve. Makes 3 -- 4 cups.
